Sale catalogue of the remarkable stock of Japanese prints, drawings and illustrated books assembled by Tadamasa Hayashi (1853-1906), a Japanese art dealer based in Paris from 1878 onwards (it had been Hayashi who had selected the items of Japanese art exhibited at Paris international Exhibition in 1900). The collection was auctioned at the Hôtel Drouot 2-6 June 1902 ; Siegfried Bing, the principal propagandist in Paris for oriental art and the Art Nouveau, acted as "expert" for the sale and contributed a short preface to the catalogue. The catalogue remains important for its numerous photo illustrations.
