A very good copy of this influential book by Marcel Fouquier on the history of garden design in France. It traces the history of the formal garden in France from the early Renaissance period to its revival in the later nineteenth century and early twentieth century, featuring some impressive recent designs for gardens of this nature by the landscape architect Duchêne (who was to collaborate with Fouquier in a subsequent book published in 1914). For each period Fouquier examines the best examples of various types of garden or elements of garden design, with excellent illustrations throughout.
