One of the least common of Le Corbusier’s pre-war publications. The “crusade” of the title refers to the efforts of a number of prominent people, headed by Gustave Umbdenstock (1866-1940), the conservative chef d’atelier of the Ecole des Beaux-Arts, to halt the spread of modernist architecture through the country on the grounds of it being inartistic and unpatriotic. The present work forms a response to an earlier public denunciation of the architecture of Le Corbusier and other modernists by Umbdenstock in Paris in 1933.
