This influential book originally appeared as a series of articles in the periodical L’Esprit Nouveau, published in 1925 during the Paris Exposition des Arts Décoratifs at which Corbusier exhibited his Pavillon de l’Esprit Nouveau, and shows the wide range of styles (from folk art to machine design) interesting Corbusier at this time. As with other Le Corbusier titles of this period, the edition identification of the present copy is made only on the volume’s front printed wrapper ; this is in any event somewhat misleading, for the book’s text is unaltered from that in earlier editions, and the edition statement simply means that the present copy belongs to the tenth issue of the original printed sheets.
