Full Description
4to. (2) + 20ff, (68) actual mounted photos on 27ff (numbered I-XXXVII, I-XXXII, with nos XIV, XV of the second group relating to a single photo). Recent cloth. Small crease at lower outer corner of early leaves.
This provides a complete photographic record of the fine series of late fourteenth century misericords attached to the cathedral's choir stalls, as well as good photographs of the surviving mediaeval sculpture on the arcades of the eastern parts of the cathedral. In his preface Aldis explains the "labour and difficulty" involved in taking the photographs, and states that the descriptive text was supplied by the local antiquary John Noake.
