Full Description
8vo. 36 engraved plates including engraved title leaf. Mid twentieth century decorative paper boards.
A rare volume of engraved designs for ornament, vases, ceiling decoration, funeral monuments and architectural detail issued under the name of the Milanese architect Paolo Federico Bianchi. Bianchi is otherwise known as the author of a two-volume work, Instituzione pratica dell’architettura civile per la decorazione de’ pubblici e privati edificii, published at Milan in 1766 (BAL Cat 267), and praised by Comolli. The designs featured include examples of ornament from the triumphal arches and temples of ancient Rome, or from Raphael’s Loggie, but also include illustrations of vases and monuments in an up-to-date neo-classical manner, and these Bianchi may either have designed himself or copied from designs by contemporaries. Three plates at the end illustrate details from buildings designed by the architect Pellegrino Tibaldi in Milan and Pavia. Not in Berlin Cat or BAL Cat.
