Full Description

Folio. (350)ff, numbered 1-348 with some errors in numbering and carrying 280 woodcut illustrations including woodcut portrait. Publisher's cloth. Booklabel of Ir. M. Bolten architect.

The Gregg reprint of the 1648 Rouen edition of the architectural works of the famous sixteenth century French architect Philibert De L'Orme (c.1515-1570). De L'Orme's Premier Tome de l'Architecture and his Nouvelles Inventions pour Bien Bastir had been published separately in his own lifetime, and had been republished as separate books in 1576, but continuing demand for them in the early seventeenth century led to the appearance of a collected edition in Paris in 1626. The Rouen edition of 1648 was the final edition, closely resembling but not quite identical to that of 1626, and both these later editions are well worth having for their added illustrations.
