First and only edition. The Edinburgh architect David Macgibbon, best remembered today as joint author with his partner Thomas Ross of volumes on the castles and churches of mediaeval Scotland, wrote this account of the architecture of Southern France when the area first became the goal of middle-class British visitors, and it is a thoroughly competent survey of the principal Roman and mediaeval sites.
