A handsomely produced volume recording the author's designs for interior decoration commissions in Britain and America. C.J. Charles (a pseudonym for Charles Duveen, a younger brother of the celebrated picture dealer Lord Duveen) was an interior decorator and antique dealer, who set up his own successful business in New York, fitting out rooms in a Tudor/Jacobean style very popular at the time ; his clients included William Randolph Hearst and John D. Rockefeller. This volume, published in a limited edition, also provides an overview of the development of British furniture and interior decoration up to the nineteenth century
