4to. x + 28pp, 100 collotype photo plates including frontispiece, 23 text ills, (4)pp publishers' adverts. Publisher's decorative cloth, slightly bumped at head and foot of spine, but a good copy, in better condition than is customary with this book. Bookplates of William Pinckard Delane Stebbing and of Jill Allibone.
A good selection of photographic illustrations of sixteenth and early seventeenth century cottages and farmhouses in Kent and Sussex, showing them when still more or less unimproved by modern restoration. The text is by the architect Guy Dawber, then becoming known as an able designer of small country houses in traditional styles, while W.Galsworthy Davie, the photographer, was in fact "an elderly architect, timid but indefatigable", who had been a pupil of William Butterfield as far back as the 1860s.
