8vo. (2) + 304 + (6)pp. Early twentieth century cloth, spine soiled and bumped at head and foot, also minor soiling etc on sides. Ink marginal comments by an early owner at foot of pp 6-9 (shaved by binder), old ink and pencil reading marks elsewhere.

Issued by Dodsley as the fifth volume of his edition of Horace Walpole’s Anecdotes of Painting in England (the original edition had been printed for Horace Walpole at his Strawberry Hill press in 1762). It incorporates a useful biography of the engraver George Vertue, accompanied by a list of his engraved works (pp 247–304).
