Catalogue 112 from the Batsford firm, long-term specialists in books on architecture and the allied arts, offering a selection from their antiquarian and second-hand stock. Whoever was then responsible for the antiquarian book department was clearly making an effort to impress, with a good selection of colour plate books on travel and topography, including a copy of Walker’s Views of Mamhead, the Seat of Sir Robert L.Newman, 1848, a real rarity and a book which any serious collector of country house view books would be desperate to acquire today, but the downturn in the firm’s ability to market their own niche speciality, books on architecture, is reflected by the fact that these are relegated to the back of the catalogue (items 325-395).
