Reproductions of photographs of towns in Southern England and the Home Counties taken by German aerial reconnaissance in the opening years of the 1939-45 war. They show the layout of the towns at that date and serve as an unexpected benchmark against which to assess subsequent urban development. The first volume deals with Hampshire, the Isle of Wight, and the south-western counties, while the second volume is devoted to London and the Home Counties.
