The Wasmuth firm of architectural publishers and booksellers in Berlin marked the jubilee of its foundation by the publication of the present volume, reproducing thirty-six representative architectural drawings. Although the idea was eminently creditable, the most interesting feature of the volume is not its reproductions of such very familiar images as the Plan of St. Gall but its role as a record of the principal drawings owned by a contemporary Berlin collector, the architect Josef Beitscher; some of these are by major architects, others are stage set drawings with the customary rather hopeful attributions, and others are drawings that Beitscher did not know much about (including two by “Georgy Richardson” (sic) for the ceiling of a country house in Northumberland).
