The title and format might suggest that this is simply a resume for the general reader of Mâle’s opinions on mediaeval art, but the book in fact brings together a number of articles and reviews by Mâle not otherwise available in collected form. It should also be noted that the majority discuss architecture or architectural sculpture, although the volume does include two articles on the miniature painter Jean Bourdichon.
