A reissue of Chapman’s 1937 biography of Beckford, marketed as vol.98 in this publisher’s Life and Letters series. This state of it, dated 1940 but seemingly issued towards the end of the 1939-45 war, omits the portrait frontispiece and the printed list of plates, as well as the plates themselves, but includes the folding genealogical table. Millington p.24 (where he dates this state to c.1944).
