Berthold Lubetkin. Un moderne en Angleterre.
Bruxelles, Pierre Mardaga (1983).
4to. 232pp, many photo ills. Gavin Stamp’s copy, with his booklabel. Two typed letters, signed, to Stamp from Lubetkin, 16 September 1983 (see above), and 27 September 1988, the latter describing from memory his design for the penguin pool at Dudley Zoo, loosely inserted.
Catalogue for a Lubetkin exhibition held at the Institut Français d’Architecture, Paris, June – September 1983, founded on the catalogue by Coe and Reading for their Lubetkin and Tecton exhibition in London in 1981, but with the addition of the text of a speech delivered by Lubetkin in 1982, and new essays by French architectural scholars. The present copy includes two typed letters, signed, to Gavin Stamp by Berthold Lubetkin, the first of which, written in response to an earlier letter by Stamp, describes Stamp’s letter as “interesting and stimulating in spite of the fact that I have no idea where you were born, and have no collection of your laundry bills or vaccination certificates !”, and is a good reflection of Lubetkin’s quirky personal character.
