Biographies d’architectes. Sebastien Serlio 1475-1554.
Lyon, Glairon Mondet 1869.
Tall 8vo. 112 + (4)pp, engraved portrait frontispiece, 4 woodcut plates. Contemporary quarter blue morocco, marbled paper boards.
Biographical study of the Italian architect Sebastiano Serlio, not common and of some interest for its author’s discussions of Serlio’s possible contributions to the design of François I of France’s palace at Fontainebleau, and of what projects Serlio might have undertaken during his stay in Lyon in the late 1540s. Léon Charvet was himself a Lyon-based architect and in 1869 a Professor at the Ecole Imperiale des Beaux-Arts in that city.
