Vivares, F. (artist and engraver)
(Book of small landscapes).
(London), “published … by J.Regnier”, 1747.
Oblong octavo. 6 engraved plates, numbered 1-6, each measuring 85 x 135mm. Each plate is inscribed “F.Vivares in.scul.”. Sewn as issued, with good margins. Plate 1 is slightly soiled, and is inscribed in ink in an 18th cent hand, “No.16”.
Another “Book of Small Landscapes” by Vivares, a few years later in date than the preceding one. Here the engravings show rather more extensive landscape scenes, with picturesque buildings on the banks of rivers or at the sides of a road, and the engravings are in their completed shaded form rather than in outline. The inscription “No.16”, suggests that this could have been Suite 16 in an overall numbering of Vivares’s output, but the surviving Vivares catalogue does not have such numbers.
