Building. The evolution of an industry. With drawings by Charles Mozley.
(No place of publication), Token Construction Co Ltd 1954.
8vo. 84 + (2)pp, many text ills from drawings by Charles Mozley, mostly printed in colour. Publisher’s cloth, in dustwrapper. Brian Housden’s copy.
Brisk historical overview of the building trade, divided into sections discussing materials, roofing, chimneys, windows, sanitation, and so on, presumably primarily intended as a present to be handed out to the Token Construction Company’s shareholders, customers and employers. What gives it an individuality are its striking text illustrations, by Charles Mozley, and the fact that its author, Philip Morton Shand, had been a thrusting architectural journalist in the 1930s, involving himself in the politics of the European modern movement and even becoming a member of the MARS Group.
