Full Description

8vo. (8)pp (including decorative title leaf with imprint date 1886), 132 designs for window glazing printed on both sides of 66ff, (2)pp printed index, all bound on stubs. Pub printed cloth, rather worn and soiled.

A volume of designs by a former President of the Société des Peintres Verriers de Paris which illustrates 132 different decorative treatments of the glazing of windows of a more or less standard size. The interest of the book today is that is concerned with the arrangement of the glazing bars rather than with the colouring and decoration of the glass, and it can presumably be used to date and to identify glazing patterns in the windows of surviving French town houses of the latter part of the nineteenth century. Although this copy is of an undated reissue, the decorative title leaf retains an earlier Claesen imprint and the original publication date of 1886, and it is notable that in 1886 M.Carot was already offering numerous glazing designs in styles described by him as “Japonais Moderne” and “Anglais Moderne”.
