Full Description

8vo. 89 + (1)pp, incl woodcut frontispiece. Publisher’s cloth, neatly rebacked.

the mediaeval parish church of St.Dunstan’s in the East, damaged in the Great Fire of London but patched up afterwards, was rebuilt in the perpendicular style to designs by the architect David Laing in 1817-21, retaining from the older building only the church’s Gothic-style steeple, designed by Wren in the 1690s. As the church was largely destroyed in the 1939-45 war, and not again rebuilt, this account of it by its then Rector, although focused on its history and on its monuments rather than on its architecture, is not without merit.
