Although described as a second edition, this appears to be the first edition in book form of a series of articles on Bristol’s churches originally published in the newspaper The Bristol Mirror. They discuss Bristol Cathedral, St.Mary Redcliffe and all the other older churches in the city : the author’s attitude to them is antiquarian rather than ecclesiological, but he records some useful information about changes made to the churches within the previous half century, and his general attitude is typical of the widespread popular enthusiasm of the time for mediaeval church architecture.
