Charvet, Alberto
Decorazioni interne delle moderne abitazioni in Italia.
Bruxelles, E.Lyon-Claesen nd (mid 1890s ?) (this imprint on a printed label pasted towards foot of title leaf)
Full Description
Large folio. Title leaf, 64 photo plates. An additional title leaf from an earlier (?) publication by Charvet also present. Title leaf slightly frayed at margins and a little spotting on plates. Pub quarter cloth portfolio, spine repaired.
The photographic plates which comprise this publication were originally issued by Alberto Charvet-Grassi, a bookseller and publisher in Turin, as a record of the interiors and ceilings of a number of sumptuous architect-designed town houses and villas of the1880s or early 1890s in Northern Italy and particularly in Piedmont. Although the volume’s subsequent publishing history was complex, this being a reissue by a Belgian publishing firm of presumably remaindered sheets, the plates nonetheless provide a snapshot of a period in Italian interior decoration not well recorded elsewhere, and the plates which illustrate the interiors of the Villa Oppenheim, Firenze, designed by the architect Pietro Comparini Rossi, are striking.
