One of a number of illustrated publications on architecture, building construction, interior decoration and garden design issued from about 1826 onwards under the authorship of Marius Wölfer, a “Bau-Inspektor” (building surveyor) from Gotha in the Saxony region of Germany. Wölfer’s publications were essentially pattern books, providing his readers with measured outline illustrations enabling them to understand and copy each of the construction processes and designs featured, but all the plates are also fully described in Wölfer’s explanatory text, and the present publication must have been a useful addition to the literature on pisé construction. The final leaf of the text advertises other books by Wölfer. Not in BAL Cat.
