An excellent historical and technical study of the garden waterworks at Frederick the Great’s palace of Sans Souci and at the adjacent New and Charlottenhof Palaces in the Potsdam palace complex. The author was the engineer in charge of the relevant hydraulic machinery, and his text describes the constant process of improvement to the royal gardens and fountains as the nineteenth century progressed. The plates are a valuable record of the appearance of the various fountains and basins in the early 1890s, including those constructed or repaired for the Emperors Wilhelm I and II. Two copies only in NUC (Princeton, Yale).
