Drawing in pen, black ink and brown wash, with ink border. 460 x 630mm. The entire sheet has in the past been backed with thin adhesive paper, effectively repairing several marginal tears, one of which extended into the drawing (without loss). Pencil inscription, “Sir John Soane”.
A study drawing of a stylised leaf along with a preliminary sketch. This drawing was once part of the large body of original architectural drawings collected by the architect and professor of architectural history Sir Albert Richardson (1880-1964), and a pencil inscription almost certainly in his hand reads “Sir John Soane”, but this would seem to be Richardson’s shorthand for the fact that the drawing was done by C.J. Richardson whilst a junior in Soane’s office.
