First edition (a better product than the subsequent 1972 reprint). Hitchcock’s two volumes on architecture in Britain from the mid 1830s to the mid 1850s, crammed with information and extensively illustrated, were the first to offer a comprehensive coverage of these two key decades in British architectural history, and still provide one of the best available accounts of the major buildings and architects of the period.
