The title of this volume of the Oxford History of English Art successfully conceals the fact about half of it is devoted to architecture and design, while sculpture also figures prominently. If it contains no great novelties, it is nonetheless good to have the architecture of the period discussed alongside the fine arts proper, and it is not easy to think of another book on the period where this is done.
