The first of two volumes on country houses of the Elizabethan and early Stuart periods in the well-known English Homes series, bringing together illustrated articles on English country houses written for the periodical Country Life by its architectural editor H.Avray Tipping. This and the eight other volumes in the series constitute an unrivalled record of all the most celebrated English country houses as they existed in the first thirty years of the twentieth century. The present copy is of the second edition, not materially differing from the first edition, 1922 (which has the same pagination).
