A number of essays by the then President of the RIBA, several focusing on seventeenth and eighteenth century French architecture including one on the relationship between Louis XIV and Colbert. Simpson was a knowledgeable and cosmopolitan President with links to architectural organisations across the world and especially strong ties with France.
