Flats urban houses and cottage homes.
London, Hodder & Stoughton nd (1907).
Folio. 160pp, 19 colour plates, many photo ills and plans. Publisher’s limp canvas, recased. Half title leaf marked, light spotting on title leaf and on outer margins of some of the text leaves (as often with this book). Roderick Gradidge’s copy (bookplate).
The first extensive publication on flat design in Britain, with numerous good illustrations and a text supplied by two of the recognised British experts on the topic (F.T.Verity & Edwin T.Hall, the latter also discussing contemporary flat design in Paris and Vienna). It is completed by an essay by G.C. Horsley on town houses and country cottages, and illustrations of a few handsome houses not featured in two previous Shaw Sparrow volumes, e.g. Lutyens’s Heathcote, Ilkley. The book is sometimes catalogued under Verity as his name appears first on its title leaf.
