Gallery of paintings, sculpture, curiosities, & &.
(No imprint, but Cheltenham, 1841).
Full Description
8vo. 16pp. Sewn as issued, the two outermost pages somewhat worn and soiled. Ink inscription “Institution Exhibition Augt 9 1841” at head of first page.
Catalogue of an art exhibition, partly of loan items and partly of paintings and other items available for sale to visitors. The locality and date of the exhibition are not stated, but an ink inscription on the catalogue’s first page identifies the exhibition as being held at an “institution” in 1841, and the individuals whose names appear on a list of lenders on the same page are, where identifiable, Cheltenham residents. Of the items on show, the first 188 were paintings, many by Old Masters or by well-known professional artists, others by amateurs in Cheltenham and its vicinity. There were also water-colours and drawings (items 193-216), sculptures (items 217-233), and “curiosities” (143 in all). Not found in British Library Catalogue and presumably scarce.
