Houses and building societies: how to buy and how to sell, and how to manage property well. By the author of “Secrets of Success”, etc.
London, Simpkin, Marshall & Co. 1885.
Small 8vo. 128pp. Publisher’s cloth, a little rubbed at head and foot of spine. Ink presentation inscription “With Mr. Frank Dethridge’s best wishes. Jan. 1. 1885”, and an illegible 19th century ink ownership inscription.
A scarce little book of advice on buying and selling property and using building societies, clearly explaining the relevant concepts and laws and ‘household hints’ on such subjects as water supply, ventilation, chimneys and so on. A section at the end of the book is devoted to the Borough of Finsbury Permanent Investment Building Society, who presumably financed the book’s publication. The present copy is a presentation copy from Frank Dethridge, listed in that section as the manager of the Finsbury Society (was he also the book’s anonymous author ?).
