Full Description

Folio. xl + 344pp, photo frontispiece, xxvii + 580 ills (mainly photo, some plans). Publisher’s cloth. Covers unevenly faded and endpapers age-discoloured, but in good condition internally. James Stirling’s copy.

A reissue in its original handsome format of Weaver’s widely influential monograph on Lutyens’s domestic architecture first published in 1913, with plenty of good illustrations of all his best-known country houses up to that date. Weaver also features his work as a garden architect, and shorter chapters at the end of the book deal with Hampstead Garden Suburb, some London town houses, his furniture designs, etc. A new preface by Weaver explains that the book records no work by Lutyens later than 1912 and that “my estimate of Sir Edwin’s place in modern architecture stands as I wrote it twelve long dividing years ago”.
