Full Description

4to. xvi + 248pp, colour frontispiece, 16 colour plates, 22 other plates additional to pagination, also text diagrams and many photo text ills (from p.121 onwards). Publisher’s cloth, spine darkened and slightly bumped at head and foot, but a good copy, clean and fresh internally.

First edition of this influential and handsomely produced volume of designs for houses and gardens by Baillie Scott (1865-1945), whose designs for the interior of the ducal palace at Darmstadt in 1897-8 had won him an European as well as a British reputation. Baillie Scott’s version of the Arts and Crafts style was particularly popular in Germany and Northern Europe, and it also impressed architects and Arts and Crafts designers in the USA.
