Idea d’un teatro adattato al locale detto delle Convertite nella strada del Corso di Roma.
Roma, Carlo Mordacchini 1821.
Large folio. 8 pp, 5 engraved plates. Later wrappers (the wrappers slightly stained, but contents fresh). Pencil note in margin of one page.
A handsome publication of a design by the author for a new theatre to be built in the Corso, Rome’s most fashionable street from the seventeenth century to the end of the nineteenth century. Its exterior elevations were to be classical, but Sangiorgi wanted the style of the interior to be a rather unusual “Gotica moderna”, somewhere between Gothic and Moorish, as can be seen from his illustrations of sections and details. Not in BAL Cat and scarce in the book trade. Olschki, Choix 18024.
