Gotch’s biography of Inigo Jones should be read, although every page of his narrative could now be improved or emended. It is interesting retrospectively that a working architect in Kettering, Northants, as Gotch was, could in the 1920s both attain the Presidency of the RIBA and be recognised as Britain’s leading architectural historian.
