Le Corbusier 1910-1960.
Zürich, Editions Girsberger 1960.
Oblong folio. 334pp, many photo ills and plans. Publisher’s cloth, in dustwrapper. Brian Housden’s copy.
A one-volume compendium of all of Le Corbusier’s most notable architectural commissions and projects up to 1960, issued by his publishers to mark his fifty years in architectural practice. Le Corbusier contributed a characteristic foreword, reproduced in facsimile from his own handwriting, and the volume is in several ways more convenient to use than the same publishers’ multi-volume published record of the entirety of Le Corbusier’s architectural work. One particularly helpful feature is that the buildings and projects are arranged by building type, enabling the reader to find all the designs for private houses in one place in the volume. The text is trilingual in French, English and German.
