One of a number of publications on design by F.G. Jackson, in 1888 Second Master at the Birmingham Municipal School of Art. It is based on lectures delivered by him to his students, and its aim was to assist them “in their early decorative attempts by showing them the constructive origin of ornamentation, and to place before them such guiding principles and orderly methods as are found to underlie all true decoration of every kind”.
