The first detailed monograph on the Statue of Liberty, a joint effort on the centenary of the statue’s inauguration by the New York Public Library and the Comité Officiel Franco-Américain pour la Célébration du Centenaire de la Statue de la Liberté. The volume comprises essays by French and American art historians discussing the symbolism of the statue and influences on the statue’s designer, Frédéric-Auguste Bartholdi, with some previously unpublished photographs.
