Discussions of Whitehall Palace, Fonthill Abbey, the Theatre Royal in Drury Lane, Nottingham Castle, Millbank Penitentiary and Glastonbury Abbey, aimed at a mass readership among the viewing public (the dustwrapper records “as seen on Channel Four”) but generally not too populist in tone. It must however be said that the chapter on Nottingham Castle, much of it devoted to events in the reign of Richard I – and thus aimed at a Robin Hood/Sheriff of Nottingham target audience – and only including the barest mention of the very interesting late seventeenth century residence erected on the castle site, is not one to turn to with any enthusiasm.
