A reprint of the third (1902) edition of Otto Wagner’s polemical architectural manifesto, translated by the architect and architectural historian Dr. Harry Mallgrave, who also gives a comprehensive introduction to the text. Otto Wagner was at the time of original publication professor at the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts, a rather conservative institution, and the publication of this book, calling for a coherent ‘modern’ architectural style, shocked many of his contemporaries while inspiring others to abandon 19th century eclecticism. This edition included plates not featured in the earlier versions.
