Mystique et architecture. Symbolisme du cercle et de la coupole.
Paris, Editions A. & J.Picard & Cie 1954.
4to. xiii + (1) + 320pp, 189 text ills (mostly photo). Publisher’s printed wrappers. A three-page ALS from the author loosely enclosed, dated 15 June 1954 and responding to congratulations about his book.
First and only edition of this influential book by the French art historian Louis Hautecoeur (1884-1973), in which Hautecoeur traces the evolution of the circularly planned and domed churches of early mediaeval Europe from the architecture of pre-Christian temples. The present copy has enclosed a three-page autograph letter from Hautecoeur written in reply to an early and enthusiastic reader (and is priced accordingly).
