Programme for survival.

First separate printing of this essay, first published earlier in the year as part of Mumford’s Values for Survival. Mumford describes the present essay as a continuation of the last few chapters of The Condition of Man (1943), warning of an imminent “complete disintegration of modern civilisation”, the seeds of which, Mumford was convinced by this time, were in the developments happening in the field of atomic energy.
