In 1935 Le Corbusier travelled to the USA and embarked on a series of lectures, meetings and an exhibition, profoundly influencing future American architectural thinking although receiving, at the time, little encouragement from the American establishment and absolutely no commissions. This book was the result of this trip, and shows Corbusier’s enthusiasm for the American way of embracing and managing technology as well as his ambivalence towards the American people (“les timides”) for lacking the courage to embrace his ideas wholeheartedly.
