Full Description

8vo. 61 + (3)pp, 14 etched plates (1 folding). Recent wrappers. William St.Clair’s copy, with his pencil ownership inscription on title leaf, and a pencil note in his hand on blank verso of last leaf.

A pamphlet by the English sculptor Richard Cockle Lucas (1800-1883), who had devoted a good deal of study to the Eligin Marbles and to their original arrangement on the Parthenon building, and was familiar with the previous literature on the subject. The folding etched plate illustrates his conjectural restoration of the Parthenon’s eastern pediment.
