Full Description

8vo. 172pp, including photo frontispiece and (92) photo plates, Publisher’s cloth, in dustwrapper. A good copy.

A well-produced volume providing short biographical essays on twelve leading British architects of the period, including Herbert Baker, Reginald Blomfield, Lutyens and Sir Giles Gilbert Scott, with accompanying illustrations of their recent architectural work. The essays benefit from the fact that the architects involved were all personally known to the essays’ author, Charles Reilly, Professor of Architecture at the University of Liverpool, and the volume provides an excellent overview of the achievement of the leading figures in British architecture at a time just before the impact of the international modern movement came to be felt in this country.
