Schultz, Robert Weir

Royal Colonial Institute. Sketch design of proposed memorial hall.
March 1919.
Price: 850 GBP
Reference: 01616

Full Description

Drawing in pencil and colour wash, showing interior perspective view of proposed building and ground plans at floor and gallery level. 295 x 400mm. Preserved on Weir Schultz’s original card mount, the mount repaired for damage (not affecting the drawing) at its right hand margin.
A striking design for a memorial hall to be built at the rear of the Northumberland Avenue, London, headquarters of the Royal Colonial Institute (now Royal Commonwealth Society). The site was evidently a difficult one, and the design is as remarkable for Weir Schultz’s ingenuity in planning as for the Byzantine-style columns and balcony at gallery level. This drawing belonged to A.B. Waters.
