Full Description

8vo. 198 + (2)pp, many text ills, (12)pp adverts. Publisher’s cloth, recased.

Gillespie supplies a preliminary text of his own, followed by a reprint of Count Rumford’s essay on fireplace construction taken from the first American printing of the Count’s collected Essays, but what gives his book a real individuality is that Gillespie was himself an architect and designer and that on almost every page there is a sketch illustration of a fireplace, fire grate or fire dog on what would otherwise be the page’s blank outer lower corner, additionally to illustrations on the main part of the page.
